...and it was quiet through the house.
It was 7 pm and things were winding down,
in preparation of turkey scents around town..
Mama was cozy in jammies with remote in hand,
preparing to watch Tivo and perhaps drift off to slumberland.
When all of a sudden, then what should appear,
but Papa in the hallway with a list of questions Mama should hear.
He was concerned about tomorrows feast.
Was there going to be corn, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie to eat?
Mama's blood pressure rose as he spoke his mind.
She'd been to the store, fought the crowds and stood in line.
Not one suggestion had been offered when she was on her way.
So she had planned the meal her own way.
So there she sat upon the couch trying not to be a grouch.
She looked at Papa and exclaimed,
"No, you knuckle head. Never once did you utter,
pie, cranberries or corn to Mother.
Its late at night the stores are closed!"
"Don't worry, don't fret there will be plenty to eat.
I suggest you turn quickly on your feet and go to bed,
before I say something nasty that we both may dread! "
