Catch up

Oh my goodness it has been so long since I have updated you all on the blog. It has been a wild two weeks with lots going on (hence why I haven't had time to blog!). So let's back track a bit.....

Our Camping Adventured

We had a blast and want to go camping again! I am also happy to report that it was the first time ever that I have not packed up my gear in the pouring down rain....Yippy!

It was a long drive to our destination. Our 6 1/2 hour drive turned into 9 hours, thanks to three little girls with pee-size bladders. We visited some of the finest restrooms along Highway 35. We also discovered that our friends Stacey & Shane follow Mapquest instruction to a T, and that they like to play Chinese fire drill in rush hour traffic.

The campground was about 40 miles from the Mexican boarder and we did get the thrill of seeing Border Patrol. Our site was right near the river in a valley surrounded by rocky mountains. An absolutely beautiful setting. It was so nice to see hills and trees! One evening, before dinner, we were able to see several deer right across from our camp site.

We spent two days tubing down the river. My water babies wanted to swim behind the tubes the whole way. At one of the deep points in the river, my dare devil, Emma, gave me a few gray hairs. There was a tall tree over the river that someone had nailed boards onto to create a ladder. Emma decides she is going to copy the big kids and climbs 25 ft up in the air and jump into the river! I saw a flash of what her teen years are going to entail. She had a life jacket on and bobbed to the surface laughing.

Back at the campsite that evening Sara put on a little performance of her own. She decided to strip out of her wet bathing suit and streak 200 yards down to the shower house. Once I caught up with her and realized the odd stares people were giving her, mama quickly covered her baby up with a towel.

During our camping trip we decided we decided we wanted to explore the beautiful scenery and go hiking. We told our self appointed guide that we wanted to do an easy 1 mile hike with the kids. So the Schmitz and our camping partners the Wilkinsons ventured out. A quarter of a mile in Sara has a meltdown and Paul's struggling with his bum knee. They decide to head back to camp and wait for us. This is where things go downhill (more like up hill!). Our paved path turns to dirt and gravel, we loose our trail and are heading straight up the dang mountain! It was a complete billy goat trail. The sights were beautiful. Emma was a troop and with a little bribery that I would buy her a patch for her girl scout uniform completed the four mile hike. So proud of her.

It was a fantastic trip, in which we left with many memories.
