Every expecting parent creating a baby gift registry for that new bundle of joy, should be told to include a carpet cleaner on their list. Never mind the five different types of strollers, the boppy pillows, or aero dynamic bottles, within months they are useless. In my opinion carpet cleaner/steam vac would be one of the most practical and useful gifts a soon to be parent could ask for.
Our first carpet cleaner arrived in our house shortly before the birth of our daughter Emma. My husband was doing major nesting for me. During my last month, I found him in our kitchen at 10:30 PM with all the furniture dragged into the connecting family room scrubbing the kitchen floor. This is the same man who only notices dust when its on the front of his TV screen, so YES, he was nesting for me.
It was during his mopping rampage that he start rattling on about how we had to get the carpet cleaned before the baby arrived. I suggested just purchasing a cleaner ourselves. It was one of the best investments we ever made. For the cost of having it professionally cleaned twice, we owned our own cleaner that we could use any time. And boy does it get used.
Our original Hoover was broken in the move and we now have a Brisell. Both work equally well, the Brisell has fewer moving parts that are prone to breaking. Between the dog tracking things in from outside on her paws, and the kids and their mess the cleaner has been a life saver.
You have all read about my little terrorist, do I really have to mention the sippy cups she pulls the lid off of to water the carpet, the fact that she thinks the carpet is a good surface to mold her playdough on, or that she applied a layer of lotion to it just this week??? Yes my carpet cleaner gets used frequently.
So forget all the crazy baby gadgets. Go for something that will grow with your kids, register for a carpet cleaner.
