Mother Nature

Grocereis were bought, gear was packed and the car was loaded up for our camping trip.  We have been planning this for a month and thought it would be a great way to end spring break for the kids.  We had so much fun camping with our friends las summer and were excited to join them again.  We also had the added fun of having another family join us who had never been camping before.

We get out of the car stretch and look around,  that was our first clue.   All the shelters around us had plastic tarps stapled around them....uh, oh.   We ignored the warning signs and continued on, unloaded the car and set up camp.  We headed into town that night for dinner and stopped at Walmart to buy a staple gun and disposal painters tarps.  Back at the camp site we got busy sealing off the shelters, but thought we should leave some openings to have air flow, this was mistake #1.

The campfir was lit the kids were having too much fun to go to bed.  The adults sat around and talked into the night until the guy from the site next to us told us we were being too loud.  Finally we decide it was time to call it a night.  We curled up in our sleeping bags and it was cold.

The next morning we started to awake one by one comparing how little each of us had slept.  We decide we need to seal off all the opening on the shelters to make them warm, so back to work we went.  We started seeing people around us packing up and leaving and made comments that they were wimps....this was mistake #2.  Another fire was lit and we began to make breakfast.  Half way through scrambling eggs the skies opened up and it began to down pour.  We quickly ran for one of the shelters gathered up all we could.  My fellow technically sauvy friends pulled out their fancy phones and pulled up the local weather radar.  It was to ran until 4 PM and that evening it was suppose to snow!  We knew it had been in the forcast, but we had hoped that we were far enough southeast that it would miss us. This is TX for pete sakes!  We are usualy in T-Shirts by now.   Perhaps those people we saw packing up this morning weren't such wimps after all.   We entertained the idea of riding out the elements.  Bring it on Mother Nature.  We heard a truck circling by and joked that perhaps it was the National Gaurd evecuating the campground.

We looked out the door behind us and saw the water and the mud coming down the hillside, out the other direction the level of the lake was rising.  Our group of twelve in the shelter were quickly growing restless.  I am not to proud to say I was the first one to vote for packing up & throwing in the towel.  It took a bit to get a group consensus, but once we did, man did we move.  We had everything packed back up in the car in under 40 minutes.  The adults soaked to the bone.

This morning when we woke up from the warmth of our home. We looked out side to find 6 inches of snow!  Man am I glad we came home.
