It has rained here for two days straight, Thank you Hurricane Ike! We need the rain, since TX is always on the verge of a drought. Water restrictions are so fun to deal with. The city fines you for using water and the HOA (Home Owner Association) fines you for having a brown lawn. It comes down to who has the cheaper fine.
The skies love to open up right about the dismissal time for school. We have been walking the half mile to and from school each day for the exercise and to save on gas. It takes more gas just to start the engine up then it does to actually get to our school. But, the thought of walking with two kids in the rain just isn't appealing. Plus, the umbrella would serve no purpose since both girls love to jump in puddles getting themselves and anyone around them soaked.
So, for the past two days we have joined the SUV Bumper Car Brigade for dismissal. You think commuter traffic on major highways at rush hour is bad, you haven't seen anything until you've seen pick-up at a school with a bunch of women in SUVs and Mini Vans! Sedans don't stand a chance. No wonder Mommies drink. These women who smile at PTA meetings and bake cookies for the class, loose any ounce of kindness when it come to the carpool line. Don't even think about following the map the school distributed showing the three lines circling the school building, using the center line as a merge lane. There is absolutely no cutting in line here. There are SUVs who have gotten their kids trying to merge out and SUVs trying merge over to the curb to get their kids, and the one dad in line who forgot his map at home stuck in the center lane who has no clue what he is doing. Its a logistical nightmare, and how there isn't an accident is beyond me.
So here's to hoping there is no rain at dismissal today.
